How to Stay Motivated When You’re Wearing All the Hats

How to Stay Motivated When You’re Wearing All the Hats

January 16, 20253 min read

Running a small business is a wild ride, isn’t it?

One minute you’re full of ideas and energy and the next, you’re knee-deep in admin, chasing invoices, and wondering if you’ve accidentally created a very stressful job for yourself.

Sound familiar?

When you’re wearing all the hats - marketing, sales, service delivery, accounts, customer support - it’s no wonder motivation sometimes takes a hit. It’s not that you don’t care. It’s that you’re human.

So if you’ve been feeling stuck, tired, or like you’ve lost that spark a little, this blog is for you.

Let’s talk about how to stay motivated when you're juggling everything.

1. Remember why you started

I know it sounds cheesy, but seriously, take a minute to reconnect with the reason you started your business in the first place.

Maybe it was freedom, flexibility, doing work you love, or building something that’s truly yours.

Write it down. Stick it somewhere visible. When things feel heavy, coming back to your why can help lift the fog.

2. Focus on progress, not perfection

One of the biggest motivation-killers? Thinking everything has to be perfect.

Spoiler alert: It doesn’t.

You don’t need the perfect offer, website, funnel or social feed to grow. You just need to keep moving - step by step.

Small progress is still progress. Give yourself permission to do things imperfectly but consistently.

3. Celebrate the little wins

We’re brilliant at noticing what’s not done. But how often do you stop to celebrate what is?

That new enquiry? A win. Sending your first email to your list? A win. Following up with that lead you were nervous about? Big win.

Keep a “win list” and write down three things every week you’re proud of, no matter how small. It builds momentum and confidence.

4. Protect your energy like it’s your job

You are the engine of your business and when you burn out, everything stalls.

That doesn’t mean bubble baths and vision boards (unless you want those). It means setting boundaries. Taking breaks. Saying no when you need to. Eating lunch away from your laptop.

Rest isn’t a reward. It’s fuel.

5. Get support (you don’t have to do it alone)

This one’s big. So many small business owners think they have to figure it all out on their own and that’s a fast track to overwhelm.

Whether it’s a coach, a community, an accountability buddy or a group of likeminded business owners, having someone to bounce ideas off, vent to, and celebrate with can make a huge difference.

Sometimes, just knowing you’re not the only one feeling like this is the boost you need.

Final thought

If you’ve been feeling demotivated, please know this: it doesn’t mean you’re not cut out for this. It means you’re doing something brave and hard and worthwhile.

Take a breath. Take a break if you need to. And then take the next step, no matter how small.

You’ve got this.
